This arc is probably going to last at least 11 episodes. It might even extend to 22 episodes like the Tenrou arc did.
They can’t just get back to the “real” story (the Magic Games arc) yet because that story isn’t finished in the manga yet. They’d catch up too fast. The episodes need to be animated far in advance as well, so you can see the problem with that…
The Fairy Tail anime has pretty fast-paced storytelling, which is one of the great things that sets it apart from other shows based on an active manga. Fairy Tail doesn’t pad out episodes with long drawn out talking scenes, reused fight footage, or flashbacks just to lag far enough behind the manga. I can live through a couple filler arcs if it means maintaining that same pace for future canon content.

p.s. error on one of the translations when gray said “you morons” their wasn’t supposed to be an s he only meant to say that to Lyon not both him and juvia. There’s also a lot more that they didn’t add in the subtitles and a lot more errors but I just wanted to point that one part out:)
