Well in my opinion this is just another route that the show took to increase sales as the season came to an end. this peticular arc is a good show on how the producers can make a very fan-based otaku show stretch without depriving the storyline of its substance. all in all, its a well thought out story line and for anyone willing to wait and see how it ends, props.
